Barry O'Farrell.  NSW Premier.

The doctor who circumcised my son without my consent is registered in the state of NSW, Australia.

Barry O'Farrell, as NSW Premier, could intervene immediately to alter the way circumcision is viewed and performed in the state of NSW.

He could UNILATERALLY intervene to have the consent procedures required to legally perform a circumcision  changed so as both parent's considered and fully informed consent is unconditionally required. This would require nothing more than picking up the phone and instructing that circumcision be subjected to a similar consent regime to that of changing an infant's or child's name (click on the 'How easy is it?' tab to see what's required to change an infant's name in NSW).

Instead, like other politicians and bureaucrats, he has elected to hide under the skirt of the medical regulators and feign impotence.

By doing nothing, he indicates that he is content and happy with the current arrangements - arrangements that saw my perfectly healthy little boy circumcised without my knowledge OR consent.

My first responses from Barry O'Farrell filled me optimism. After my dealings with the Keneally Government, Mr O'Farrell was polite and courteous, returning every letter written. Mr O'Farrell was THE FIRST politician to realise that the entire issue, circumcision generally and my lack of consent specifically, were matters for the (then) Shadow Attorney General, Mr Greg Smith.

When Mr O'Farrell took government and after waiting for a short time, I reacquainted him with my issues.

Time passed and I sent Mr O'Farrell a follow up letter, the first time this had been necessary. I immediately received a letter from him indicating that a response was "being prepared".

A number of days later, the response did, in fact, arrive from Mr David Clarke, Parliamentary Secretary for Justice with the Attorney Generals Department. The content of the letter would indicate that it was hastily cobbled together only after the Premier's office followed the matter up.

More disturbingly, Mr Clarke elected to pass the buck to the Health Minister, claiming that the Attorney General and parliament were powerless to act unless called to action by the "medical fraternity" (whatever or whoever that may be exactly).
